Buckeye Hills- Hocking Valley Regional Development District
GIS/ GPS Services
Buckeye Hills has been utilizing GIS mapping technologies since the early to mid '90's. Buckeye Hills uses this technology to supplement funding packages, to track and maintain local statistical information, and to help gather and disseminate pertinent spatial data to interested parties throughout the district.
The staff at Buckeye Hills is currently utilizing ESRI's ArcGIS desktop software (3.x, 8.x, 9.x) to complete specialized mapping projects. A Trimble GeoXT (submeter) GPS unit running Windows CE and Trimble's TerraSync software, along with Pathfinder Office, is used to augment Buckeye Hill's GIS activities with high accuracy data creation capabilities.
The GIS staff is able to work with existing data in any of the following data formats:
-
.shp (shapefiles)
-
.gdb (geodatabase)
-
.e00 (ARC/Info interchange file)
-
.dgn (5x to 8, CADD)
-
.dwg (release 12 to AutoCAD 2006)
-
.dxf (release 12 to AutoCAD 2006)
-
Multiple Raster Image Formats such as TIF, GIF, JPEG, PNG, and BMP

Useful GIS Tools/Scripts/Utilities
-
Batch Define Projection (Shapefile, Coverage, Grid, or Raster)
This is a useful Visual Basic macro used to define the projection of many files at once in ArcCatalog. (Especially useful for projecting multiple rasters.)
-
Map Book Utility (ArcObject Developer Sample)
This tool allows the user to create a Map Book from a selected ArcGIS map document. This sample was available in the Developer Kit in release 8.x, but isn't readily available in the 9.x release.
-
Online Batch Geocoding Tool
This is a useful website which allows users to input tab delimited text files (i.e. excel) with address data and batch geocode that data. The result is a duplicate file with lat / long coordinates added, and the option to save the results as a Google map or download a corresponding KML file.
