Employee Spotlight Series: Kimy Porter
In our 2019 Employee Spotlight Series, we are creating space to highlight the nearly 65 employees of Buckeye Hills Regional Council. Every year, we celebrate as a region the tremendous impact of our programs and services - an investment of nearly $1.2 billion into southeast Ohio since our inception in 1968 - but it’s our employees who work hard every day to breathe life into our mission and pour out into the eight-county region we serve.
Follow along as we feature three different employees every month!
Kimy is a Fiscal Assistant II for Buckeye Hills Regional Council and has been in her current position since March 2017.
What led you to your current position at Buckeye Hills?
Kimy: Working with seniors in my last position, I was well aware of Buckeye Hills. When an opportunity opened that I felt my skills would fit, I applied and was hired to work at the front desk. I was very happy to start working for Buckeye Hills, and immediately knew this would be a great place I could grow and be part of, hopefully for many years to come. I joined the Fiscal Department about a year ago, and I am very happy in that position.
How would you describe your job to someone who is completely unfamiliar?
K: I process monthly reimbursements to our service providers who deliver services to consumers in our region, and also process the organization’s accounts payables.
What do you find most rewarding about your position?
K: I am so blessed to work at Buckeye Hills! My co-workers are very helpful to assist if needed, and our Executive Team is supportive, which I feel is very important.
Why do you think the mission of Buckeye Hills is important to our region?
K: People need resources and sometimes don’t know where to find them, Buckeye Hills is a valuable resource in many areas.
What is one thing you wish more people realized about Buckeye Hills?
K: I think we are on our way to making the public aware of who we are and what we can do.
If you had to choose a favorite program, service, or initiative of Buckeye Hills, which would that be and why?
K: BHRC offers many programs to help and serve; it is hard to pick just one. One of my favorites is the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and there is definitely a need for this, based on the participation.
What are you looking forward to most in your position this year?
K: I am looking forward to seeing the fruition of the new programs and avenues Buckeye Hills is working on. To see the growth, and to be part of this journey, is very exciting!
